The Sunset Trail Riders have teamed up with another great group in Kenora to try and show our support. Handi Transit is a group which provides accessible door to door service in lift equipped vehicles for people who are mentally or physically challenged. This service provides transportation to people who are unable to safely access and / or use conventional transit.
On Saturday, January 29th we are planning a snowmobile poker run with the proceeds earned in the run to be donated to Handi Transit. This service needs all the help it can get to survive and we are getting really excited about being able to help. The cost will only be $20 which is the registration and 1 hand. Additional hands are $5 each or 5 for $20 (all proceeds to go to Handi Transit)
The Route will be from starting at the A&W with the registration from 9 to 11 AM., then through Anicinabe Park via the A trail and heading East to the Witch Bay warm up shelter. Once you are at the Witch Bay shelter you have your choice of three routes back home. The first is the short way back via the Dogtooth Trail, the second is to head down to Sioux Narrows and stop in at Gills trading Post and then back to the A&W and the third is to head to Stewart Lake and back on the Pipeline trail.
We will also have a special wildcard voucher, a maximum of one per hand, which can be gained by bringing a receipt for that day from any of our advertising sponsors. In addition, we have added something NEW for this derby with a 2nd wild card on any one hand which will be handed out at the Witch Bay shelter.
This second wildcard will be handed out by Handi Transit Volunteers at the Witch Bay Shelter who will trade the special voucher for a donation made to the Handi transit group. The Handi Transit will also be serving hot dogs, chilli, and hot chocolate for any donations by the riders so make sure you plan having lunch there.
The derby will then return to A&W between 3 PM and 5PM where the hands will be sorted and the winners announced.
Special Occasion permits will be available at A&W for $ 35.00. These Special Occasion Permits allow non permit holders to ride on OFSC trails the day of the event.
9:00-11:00 am at Kenora A & W (OFSC Permit required – Special One Day permits will be available for $35.00)
